In preparation for the Kaiser Half Marathon that I am running on Super Bowl Sunday - I have begun a strict daytime diet exclusively of jerky. My goal is to lose around 6 pounds before race day, which my legs will greatly appreciate on mile 11. I do not eat any brakfast or lunch - other than jerky, and will eat a dinner of salad and fruit. Typically - morning eating is the Krave Pork or Turkey, and later in the day is Chili Lime and Sweet Chipotle. Thus far - I have lost 4 pounds...
I will report back in a few days to update on my progress.

T minus 14 days to Kaiser 1/2 marathon.
Lot's of wind and rain today -- but managed to log in an 8 mile run. I also got in some quality hill work for strength building - and the Pork Teriyaki was pefect for getting me ready (energy wise.) One full bag (3.25 oz) was satisfying enough for the pre-run.

Today was a 3-bagger... don't know if I was drained from the 49er game yesterday, or just being a long Monday - but I was STARVING. 3 bags = 63g protein... it did the trick. Got home a bit late and hit the treadmill -- now hungry again.
-
Oh - and minus 4 pounds to boot.

Ok -- while I'd love to say that consuming jerky alone (which is what I've been doing now for almost a week), with the exception of fruits and vegetables in the evening was AWESOME -- I'd be lying. I mean, I've grown up with my Italian meals -- and greatly miss my pastas and breads. Like today, after my morning bag of Pineapple Orange, I hit some Sweet Chipotle for lunch. Before I knew it, I finished two bags -- and must say was longing for more. But here's the scoop, the fact is after just one week, 5 pounds have come off - and I feel the strength building in my longer runs.
While we founded this company as an alternative healthy snack to so many other unhealthy gut-stuffers - what is fundamentally a core truth, is that this product is KILLER additive for endurance training. And -- for the record -- 1/2 Marathon is now 10 days away.

Today was a SWEET day! We tasted through several new jerky recipes during our product develpment meetings. For me, it was quite refreshing, as I have literally ONLY been eating our KRAVE jerky for over a week. Needless to say -- the new flavors were KILLER and we will be rolling them out in the next few months as we finalize our recipes.
I must admit, I have never really been the diet kinda guy -- and my intentions of voyaging on this JERKY only program were frankly meant to get me physically ready for my upcoming race, but geez -- this really works! I mean the Paleo Diet craze is quite fashionable these days - but let me tell you, a Krave only approach will shed the pounds quick-style.
So whether you're getting ready for a race (of any kind), or just thinking about it -- I encourage you, take the first step, set a goal and just get going --- it's all so worth it.
May the wind always be at your back --- Krave-it!

I have been eating Palio for the most part for a year. Which is basically meat fruits and vegitables. Avoiding gluten and sugar. It is amazing how much better I feel in my workouts.
JAS good luck with the training one week to go.

Light run today -- LONG run tomorrow...but who can complain when it is 70 degrees in January in California. I mean, how motivating is a gorgeous day in the heart of winter -- ? So in the spirit of motivation, here are a few of my favorites quotes about running. For me running is NEVER been about winning the race, it has always been about enjoying the preparation.
"The miracle isn't that I finished. The miracle is that I had the courage to start."
-John Bingham
"The will to win means nothing without the will to prepare."

It's about game-time... 13.1 mile race in 3 days. I love the pre-run jitters - makes me feel alive.
So - the results of 18 days of jerky only are as follows.
-
Results:
1. Lost 7 pounds -- and I really don't have a ton of weight to lose.
2. Lost 3/4" off my waist.
3. Protein load built tremendous muscle strength for my later mile endurance.
As I said before -- I never did this to lose weight, I used the Krave only diet as a fun and healthy way to accelerate my preparedness for the 1/2 marathon. But clearly the results are awesome...
After the San Francisco 1/2 marathon this weekend - I am off to Honolulu to launch our brand in Hawaii at the Aloha Run, so needless to say, I will remain on the jerky saddle as we continue to build our racing performance.
So - lace 'em up & get your Krave on!

5:00 AM -- It's race day and go time.

Upward and onward --- Kaiser 1/2 done. A truly glorious day in San Francisco -- 20,000 runners and all enjoying KRAVE Jerky at the finish line.
Next up - The Aloha Run in Hawaii on Feb 19th (again with Krave as a Sponsor). So -- the voyage continues - the training gets a bit more intense - and hopfully the miles get a little closer!

Jas,
Great meeting you this weekend at bro-in-law's grad, only guy in a Navy Uniform). Super stoked to give this a try. Jerky was my main "go to food" while flying missions overseas. Look forward to making this a standard in my flight bag.
Cheers and titally dig the site!

Off to Hawaii tomorrow - and getting ready for the Aloha Run in Honolulu on Monday. Alongside sponsoring this running event, Krave will officially be launching our brand in this market. While we are currently in every Safeway branded store on the islands, our goal is to penetrate the grocery and athletic channels. Running, jerky, Hawaii --- so awesome! Also - on Friday, we will be LIVE in the Hawaiian studios of ESPN radio to speak the gospel of the Krave Crusade.
Training and diet still include a deep concentration of jerky - and I fully expect my performance this weekend to be better than last weekends 1/2 marathon.
Also -- if you have not done so already, I invite to you to check out our recipe section on this site - as there are some really killer suggestions on how best to incorporate jerky into other meals.

Been awhile -- but the Paleo Diet continues... Spring is around the corner, and fitness is our core focus.
The Great Aloha Run last weekend in Hawaii was amazing - race started in downtown Honolulu and ended in the Aloha Stadium (where they play the ProBowl.) Along the way .. Pearl Harbor, gorgeous ocean views .... and 30,000 runners. So inspiring.
We were invited for an interview on ESPN Radio for Krave before the race -- which fantastic for JERKY. We spoke the gospel of why the Paleo/protein diet is so important and relevant in an active lifestyle.
Next up == 199 mile relay race! Stoked!
Krave-on.
