Savory Olive Spread
November 2010
As we’ve all heard, there is no reason healthy foods have to be boring, and believe me – we here at Krave thrive on healthy cuisine – and we do our best to avoid ’boring’ in any form!
Now that the holidays are upon us and the pressure is on for tasty, easy hors d’ oeuvre ideas, here is something all your guests will rave about! It is quick, easy, has a long refer life and is bound to increase your reputation as a gourmet chef!
Try this easy-to-make spread on flatbread-type crackers or those yummy Panzanella crackers. In fact, you can spread it on just about anything – baked potatoes? Celery? A twist on traditional garlic bread? Liven up boring hard-boiled eggs? Spread in your turkey sandwich? Use your imagination!
Ingredients:
2 cups pitted Kalamata olives
1 pkg. (7 oz.) dried black Mission figs, stemmed and quartered
1 pkg. (about 3/4 cup) finely diced Krave Chipotle Jerky
1 tablespoon capers
1 large clove garlic, mashed
1 tsp. fresh thyme (optional)
1 Tbsp. balsamic vinegar
1 Tbsp. olive oil
Combine all ingredients in a processor or blender and grind until mixture forms a thick paste.
Serve with crackers or fresh vegetable crudité.
Makes 2 cups spread.
